New Member Brunch
Sunday, February 26
The New Member Brunch, traditionally held at the Long Beach Yacht Club, had to be moved to the "Acapulco Mexican Restaurant y Cantina" in the Marina Pacific shopping center. The shopping center provides extensive docking facilities and the restaurant has a fantastic Mexican buffet so it all worked out wonderfully well.
A time to introduce potential new members to our club is provided by this event and the members always enjoy the time as much as the guests.
Any good event begins with preparation. Boat captains stopped by the clubhouse on Saturday to stock their boats with bubbly and OJ to provide refreshments during your ride to Long Beach.
Folks headed to the slips for the 9 a.m. cast off where they were met by the captain and crew for the short ride over to Los Alamitos Bay and the "Alcapulco" restaurant.
The short travel from the breakwater to the harbor at Los Alamitos Bay was highlighted with a couple of one man catamarans attempting to ride the La Fortuna wake into the bay. It looked like a lot of work to me.
We passed the empty docks of the LBYC on our way to the "Acapulco" restaurant. We were unable to have our brunch at the LBYC, as we traditionaly have, due to the work being done on their docking facitlites.
Our founding commodore, Dewey Rudolph, celebrated what he said was his 59th birthday. I did the math and figured that he was
two years old when he founded the club.
Robin and Jean Clark were presented with a photo of the winning boat in the 2011 Huntington Harbour Holiday Boat Parade. Coincidently it was thier
boat, the FIN-TASTIC. The Clarks have been very gracious with volunteering their vessel for this event the last few years.
We had an opportunity to meet many new folks when they introducted themselves to the membership.
The McCormicks, Bob and Joanne, passed out new member packages to our guests and invited them to join us on our ongoing voyage of fun and relaxation.
Staff Commodore John Humphreys gave an update on the next event on our calendar,
a Jimmy Buffett Party March 10.
